Just saw this over on our friends blog We Are Orange Juice, which is a recommended blog if you want to keep updated on anything BMX related. They also have a very limited collaboration coming out with Soulcycle.

But anyway, about this video; Chad Kerley has been making huge waves in BMX over the past few years. His incredible ramp and street skills combined with great attitude helped him become the newest member of the Nike 6.0 Pro Team. Welcome to the family, Chad!

Thursday, July 21 2011 at 11:07 am by:

Just saw this over on Facebook. Damn, I could watch this video all day. This is exactly what I like about riding fixed, playing in traffic, weaving in and out, dodging pedestrians, cutting corners, shooting through intersections and racing with your friends… this makes me miss New York summers. G*ddamn.

I want to see more of this!

Footage from Lincoln’s 2nd place finish at Broadway Bombing 2011. As you can guess, Crihs won it; “What happened with the road bike!?”

GENRE DE VIE

Wednesday, July 20 2011 at 1:13 pm by:

Our friend Jorrit is making a full length documentary called Genre De Vie together with fellow Rotterdam bicycle messenger Sven. The movie is about the rediscovery of the bicyle in modern cities will look at city transformation and the role that the bicycle plays in it. What it does to the sustainability and structural consequences for the livability of cities.

In the past few years a growing number of cities worldwide have been (re)discovering the use of the bicycle. Sustainability plays a large role in the motivation behind the revival of the bicycle and takes on different challenges, placing itself in a new and relevant social position. The question then remains whether or not the revitalization and new positioning of the bicycle could contribute to the livability of society.

The documentary Genre De Vie researches the present effects of this form of transport and the lifestyle that is attached to it though research into already existing initiatives that play a crucial role in the revitalization of the bicycle. By taking a global perspective the documentary makers form a clear view on the transformation of cities and urban living. Concentrating also on the effects of the bicycle, from a socio-cultural standing point, within which the individual is central.

Genre De Vie is a documentary that focuses mainly on city’s that already promote a pro bicycle lifestyle. This coming from a viewpoint, that the bicycle is a positive development on the social and environmental structure and hence of profound effect on the living quality of its inhabitance. The documentary concentrates on individuals that plan yearly races in the post-industrial landscape of the city, and the sociological processes in which the bike plays a pivotal role. It also focuses on the more general role of the bicycle with regards to personal experience and use of space.

In these times of cuts in the cultural budget (regering krijg de tering) they are looking at new ways to finance this creative undertaking. And this is where YOU can help. Together with Voordekunst they are trying to raise the money through crowdfunding. This means you can donate money, starting at €10,00. And starting at €25,00 there are cool package deals where you’ll get a copy of the DVD when it’s finished, but also t-shirts, cycling jerseys, a basket for your bike…

They also have their own site and blog where you can leave comments and contribute ideas and thoughts for the movie so you can be a part of it!
