I was just browsing the Trackosaurus blog (which everyone should read btw) when I saw this article about supporting your LBS (Local Bike Shop) so, as a LBS owner, I thought I would share
The first is an article from the Ritte blog.
Some of my earliest memories are of loitering around one of my local shops in Texas, memorizing every chromoly inch of a jet-black Miyata 12-speed. I inundated the guy behind the counter with what must have been completely inane questions and spent so many hours under the shop’s roof it’s amazing they didn’t charge my folks for babysitting. When I was old enough my parents bought me a jet-black Dave Scott edition Ironman from a big-box store that was having a sale. I went back to the shop with the Miyata to show off my new ride and was hit for the first time how important it is to support your local mom and pop: even at my young age I could see they were disappointed to loose yet another customer to a huge chain store and I felt pretty shitty for contributing to their eventual demise.

And the second is the blog post which inspired the Ritte post. And that is a post on Il Chat del Giorno about the local bike shop and the “characters that frequent a shop creating a Cheers-ian tragicomedy complete with running laugh track and end credits.” From the Latin Mechanic to the Fixie Riding employee, this is a blog post you don’t want to miss!

Did we post this bike before? We may have but damn – if I could only have one bike for the rest of my life… this might just be it.
It’s a Merckx, it’s pink, it’s pursuit, Campy and Phil Wood components with a pink Turbo saddle to match. It’s just damn sexy.

Just saw these beauties over on Prolly Is Not Probably.
“Jordan Hufnagel of Hufnagel Cycles has been working on these bikes over the last year or so. The bike features a custom fitted hand built frame, fork, stem and rack. All designed to have a clean look and intuitive function. No unused braze ons hanging around and no superfluous parts. It is kitted out with the finest components for the job. Many of these parts are american made, some even made in house. Most importantly, they are made by people that care and are passionate about what they do.”
I don’t even dare to ask what they would cost. But if you’re interested in one of these bicycles, feel free to call or email Jordan:

Dustin Klein of Cadence and Mike West of 686 go over some of the key features of the newRain Jacket & Pant kit built specifically for cycling. Granted, it’s a rainsuit, but they look pretty dope. And the rainy season has begun both in Seattle as here in Amsterdam. So this will come in handy when you’re cycling to work and don’t want to get there all soaked.

“Following 5th Floor rider, “Call Me Back To You” is a short film that sees Dave Hall leave the hectic London life behind for a few days and return back to his much quieter and peaceful home town of St Andrews, Scotland. Most notably famous for it’s golf course.”
I was fortunate enough to still be working under the 5th floor name while the initial talks of this video began.
early a year ago Dave asked me about doing a short edit as a riders profile. He didn’t want another video that just saw him riding through traffic in the busy streets of London, so the plan was to head far north, back to Dave’s home town of St Andrews.
Beautiful location, great food, rubbish weather and a brilliant group of people. Sums up Scotland on most days.
Huge thanks to Dave for asking to do this video all those months ago, and huge thanks to all those that was involved in the making of this video.”
